We hope that you will be able to join us for this two-day visit to Northumberland the first-ever EBTS UK trip to this part of the country.
We will see six private gardens over the two days:
- Shortridge Hall near Warkworth
- Whalton Manor
- Bichfield Tower near Belsay
- Hill House in Heydon Bridge
- Halton Castle near Corbridge
- Lambshield near Hexham
We will travel together by coach on the first day and in individual cars on the Wednesday. (Lifts can be arranged for people who would prefer not to drive.) Lunch on Tuesday will be at The Beresford Arms in the village of Whalton and at Errington Coffee House in Corbridge on the Wednesday.
Our base for the two days will be Hexham and Members are asked to book their own accommodation. The hotel we are recommending is the Langley Castle Hotel near Hexham, where we have secured a 20% discount on normal room rates as well an additional 5% discount for single occupancy (see the EBTS UK website for a list of the full rates). There will be an optional group dinner at the hotel on the Tuesday evening, which is open to everyone regardless of where they are staying. There are plenty of other hotels in the area including The Beaumont Hotel in the centre of Hexham and The George in Chollerford. People who stay in other hotels will be able to park their cars at Langley Castle for the day to join the bus on the Tuesday.

The cost for the two days is £200 per person (which includes lunch on both days) but members may join just one of the days (Tuesday £110 / Wednesday £90).
The the optional two-course dinner at Langley Castle Hotel is an extra £60 per person, excluding drinks.
There are many other attractions in the region so do consider adding a few more days to your stay in the county either before or after our garden visits. These include Hadrian’s Wall and associated museums such as Vindolanda and Castlesteads Roman Fort; National Trust properties including Cragside, Wallington and Lindisfarne; as well as other major gardens such as Alnwick Castle and Chillingham. The charming market town of Hexham itself, with a fine Abbey in the centre, certainly deserves a visit.
If you plan to join us and would like to book a room at the Langley Castle Hotel, you will find details of the special rates and instructions on how to book below. Note that these rates are for two nights and include breakfast. If you plan to stay for a third night, the same discount will apply.
