Vann garden near Godalming

Loseley Park

The Annual General Meeting will take place at Loseley Park, near Guildford (Surrey) on Saturday 9 May 2026. We do hope that you will be able to join us at this special event which will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the foundation of EBTS. The formal business meeting will begin at 10.00 and will be followed by a series of short talks from previous EBTS UK chairs as well as Countess Véronique Goblet d’Alviella (co-founder of EBTS) who will join us together with other members of EBTS Belgium. There will then be an opportunity to tour the gardens, which we will have entirely to ourselves on the day. A buffet lunch will be served together with a glass of prosecco to toast our anniversary. Members may also join guided tours of the house if they wish (for an additional fee of £20, payable on the day).

Vann garden

After our meeting at Loseley Park, we drive 12 miles to Vann garden near Godalming for a private visit. This five-acre garden, which featured in the March edition of House & Garden, is formed by a series of ‘rooms’ which surround and complement a family home dating from the 16th century. The Caroe family have lived at Vann for over 112 years. From the old Cottage Garden with delightfully informal planting in a formal setting, to the robust pergola of Bargate stone by W.D.Caröe, the Arts and Crafts architect and great grandfather of the present owners, to the Water

Garden, laid out and planted by Gertrude Jekyll in 1911, and the newly designed and planted Centenary Garden, Vann offers inspiration to expert and amateur gardeners alike.  The house and garden have been used as a filming location for the Disney’s Christopher Robin and the BBC’s 2017 adaptation of EM Forster’s Howards End. David Suchet and the Poirot film crew have also used the house as a filming location for two episodes of the long-running ITV series based on Agatha Christie’s popular novels. Refreshments will be served at the end of our visit.
