The Airedale Project – an update

It’s about a year since the installation of my wire framed Airedale. The warm wet summer induced rapid growth and by July the Airedale was definitely in need of a trim.

My two eldest grandchildren were keen to have a go, so as we need to encourage budding topiarists, I let them loose with ARS pruning snips.

It is an ideal project to get children started on clipping as they can’t really make a mistake. The results are instant and provide that all important sense of achievement.

A year on, the frame is filling out with some growth getting into the neck and a sprig into the tail section. This was never going to be an instant project and I await the growth spurt this year.

On a poignant note, Ellie, my beloved Airedale, died very suddenly and unexpectedly at the end of March this year. She is buried elsewhere in the garden and the statue proudly wears her collar.
