Enticing Paths
At the end of September the Norfolk Gardens Trust launched its latest book, the fourth it has published, ‘Enticing Paths -A Treasury of Norfolk Gardens and Gardening’ edited by EBTS UK member Roger Last.
And treasury it is, 23 chapters covering the widest possible garden material related to the county from the history of iindividual gardens such as the bishop’s garden and the garden of the Colman family in Norwich to the working of the great fountain at Holkham Hall, snowdrop breeding, plant collecting, the manufacture of garden accessories in the 19th century, Norfolk gardens as depicted in art across three centuries, lakes in Norfolk parks, a detailed survey of trees in the county from the 1840s, and much more.
Extensively researched, the hardback book of 480 pages is superly illustrated with over 500 illustrations many of them never published before.
‘Unputdownable’ is one quote of praise. ‘Absolutely beautiful ….it is like being led through the gardens by astonishing well-informed friends’
