RHS Home of Gardening Science Opens
On 24 June the new home of gardening science opened in RHS Wisley’s new Hilltop building surrounded by three new gardens. EBTS UK was invited to visit the building and gardens a couple of days before it opened to have a look round. It was also our opportunity to see the engraved sweet chestnut strip recognising the £1510 collected by the Society to pay for the 5 archive boxes that will look after the herbariums Buxus samples. Thank you again if you donated money to the Box in a Box campaign, it is now being used to preserve the Buxus specimens in the collection.
In the entrance area there are a selection of exhibits about the RHS Global Knowledge Bank which holds the story of gardening in Britain which has been built up over the last 200 years. The library and herbarium are now housed in state of the art conditions along side places for students to learn and scientists to carry out research.
There is also a café, auditorium and classroom facilities for conferences and and education where EBTS UK hopes to hold one of its future AGM’s.
