A great selection of gardens across Aberdeenshire, Fife, Angus and Perthshire. Lots of castles with lots of amazing topiary.
The general weather and changing climate have made looking after the boxwood elements of the gardens more difficult to maintain with many suffering badly from repeated blight outbreaks. Where possible EBTS gave the head gardeners/owners as much advice as possible on how to improve the health of the plants.
On our first day visiting topiary gardens in Scotland we visited Jupiter Artland where we had a guided walk through the private gardens around Bonnington House by head gardener Thomas Unterdorfer. The second garden, also private, was designed around a small 16 century castle and the owners, who showed us around have built the garden over the last 19 years.
Thanks very much to the owners and head gardeners for their hospitality and for sharing their wonderful gardens with us during our visit to Scotland.
Thanks also to our host during our stay, the Duchess of Fife for making us all feel very much at how in her home, Kinnard Castle.
Special thanks goes to Charlotte Maclean for organising the trip over an extended period due to Covid which stopped the trip twice.
