Second Topiary Ambassador joins the team
EBTS UK is delighted to announce that Bunny Guinness has agreed to be a Topiary Ambassador.
Bunny, daughter of one of European Boxwood & Topiary Society’s founder members, has worked alongside EBTS UK on many projects including her latest article for the Telegraph published online 21st March and printed on 28th March which focuses how to keep box safe from pest and disease.
Bunny believes that boxwood is a cornerstone of any great garden and feels that now is the right time for it to regain its popularity as there are organic solutions to box blight and box moth/caterpillars as well as readily available blight resistant box varieties.
“I am delighted to have been asked to be a Topiary Ambassador. My mother was a founder member of EBTS and I have followed their work closely and often contact them for information and advice. I wholeheartedly support their efforts to reintroduce box back into gardens. It is frustrating that in the UK, unlike many places in Europe, there is a lag in approving widely available and safe box pest management treatments, resulting in many gardeners removing box. And with new blight tolerant Buxus hybrids, such as Skylight, Heritage, Renaissance and Babylon Beauty from Herplants, concerns about blight infection has gone away.
Topiary is fun for all ages and abilities, anyone can have a go at growing and creating their own individual piece of art for their garden or table top. EBTS offers guidance, courses and information based on the knowledge of it’s members, professional and amateur around the world.
I was very excited to learn that Jools Holland has also agreed to become a Topiary Ambassador. His Instagram post on 18 March showed off the amazing yew topiary shapes he’s created in his garden and I look forward to working with him, and future Ambassadors, on this fun and exciting project. Well done EBTS UK!”
As well as publishing articles in the Telegraph this week, Bunny has a new YouTube video, ‘Four New Things for great Box and Yew Topiary’ which gives an update on the latest varieties of box, organic solutions for dealing with blight and the box moth as well as introducing many of us to the Box Doctor who will email you when it is time to spray – Link.
EBTS also recommends a spraying regime formulated by Karel Goossens (a box grower in Belgium and former chairman of EBTS BE) which can be found HERE on the EBTS UK website. We are keen to hear feedback of your success using either technique via info@ebts.org
