This is a zoom meeting for box growers, nurseries, distributors, designers and product suppliers.

The story of Box is currently – a hint of blight or a leaf nibbled by the box tree caterpillar and box is not worth the effort! – Rip it out!

But here at the European Boxwood and Topiary Society we know that is wrong. Box is a phoenix plant and should be used in garden designs. Its small, reflective leaf, low maintenance needs, ability to be shaped into anything the imagination can dream up and the key fact that it is a British native, suited to our landscape, all make it a plant still worth using.

We believe in the future of Box, so how can the European Boxwood and Topiary Society help you?
We have expert advice to help you make the most of Box for your clients and customers and improve their gardens with this evergreen wonder.

The European and Boxwood Society, in conjunction with top UK topiarist Darren Lerigo, invite you to a join a collaboration between growers, sellers, distributors, artists/ clippers and designers to discuss – Is the future of box blighted? Should we fight for its survival or let blight and the caterpillar win and let a plant, which has been grown since Roman times, become extinct?

We feel that this plant deserves to be fought for and want to assist in organising a coordinated effort to return it to its rightful place in gardens of all sizes across the country.

Purpose:
An Initial meeting to gauge interest in peoples’ views and challenges on Box to determine whether it is worth the fight!

If we agree that Box is worth fighting for, then we can create a set of actions to coordinate effort to grow, promote and educate people about Box.

Possible actions:

  • Create a list of growers and distributors – we are often asked for suppliers
  • Share our Box Moth & Caterpillar educational leaflet and work out how we can share with retail sellers so that they can share with their customers to safe guard their investment in box
  • A plan to promote box in gardens – Head Gardeners, the press etc
