Time to get those clippers out!
It’s that time of year for you to get your clippers out and start tidying up those unruly box balls and spirals.
Here are a few things to remember:
- Make sure you clippers are sharp
- Make sure your tools are clean before you start clipping
- Regularly spray your clippers with an anti-bacterial spray as you work (this will reduce the likelihood of spreading an infection between plants
- Try to clear up as many clippings and leaves as you can – it looks neater and again will reduce infections
- Keep an eye out for any pests and if you spot a fluffy white deposit or any small caterpillars make sure you spray the infected plants and those around them. Suitable sprays for small gardens include:
- Bug Clear Ultra
- Resolva Bug Killer
- Watering your plants at their bases will avoid causing a damp environment in the centres of the plants and also help as after clipping they tend to loose fluid through the clipped leaves and branches
- You can also use a good folio feed so the plants have vigour to fight off any infections that might try to get into the cuts where they have been clipped
Then, most importantly, make sure you sit back and enjoy the results!
I did get round to clipping the bay as well but forgot to take a photo!
And clipping the topiary in the back garden.
